Thiruvananthapuram Zoo

The Thiruvananthapuram Zoo is a beloved destination for families in the city, particularly during the holidays, and has become a hub for conservation efforts over the years. 

Spanning across 55 acres, this zoo was established by Maharaja Swathi Thirunal Rama Varma in 1857, making it one of the oldest zoos in the country. It is home to a wide variety of indigenous animal and bird species, boasting a collection of around 82 different types of animals. 

Tourists can explore the reptile house and snake farm, which features both venomous and nonvenomous snakes. The highlight of this area is the anacondas, gifted to the zoo by the Dehiwala Zoo in Sri Lanka in 2017. The zoo is surrounded by picturesque woodlands, lakes, and lawns.
