Munroe Island

Munroe Island

There is a lovely, green oasis hidden among the tranquil waves. A group of eight scenic islets together referred to as Mundrothuruthu, or Munroe Thuruth, are situated near Kollam at the confluence of Ashtamudi Lake and Kallada River.

In addition to the lush mangroves that beautify the rivers and the rural life that emanates tranquilly, it is home to a wide range of flora and wildlife that annually draws migratory birds. Traditional coir making, enjoying the food of the region, going fishing, and many more activities are all available to visitors.  A view into the vibrant village life is provided by a canal cruise across the constrained waterways. Another historic building with rustic construction on the island is the Dutch church.
