Nature getaways around Bengaluru

Garden-city-bangalore.jpg

Business and leisure trips are inherently different. What is common is that they both might get tiring, especially when you are in Bangalore. However, there is much more to Bangalore than IT parks and congested roads. Take time off from your busy schedule for a day trip to these natural getaways around Bangalore. You can take a bus, book a cab or ask your hotel in Bangalore to arrange for transportation.

Bannerghatta Biological Park
Bannerghatta Biological Park is about an hour and a half’s drive from the city. You can see eucalyptus, sandalwood, tamarind, bamboo and neem trees in the Bannerghatta national park. Also, the park is home to jackal, foxes, deer, elephants, porcupine, leopards, Asiatic Lion and Royal Bengal tiger among other animals.  You can go around in buses or vans or opt for a personal tour of the park in a jeep. Also, you can ask your concierge or attendant in your hotel in Bangalore, to make bookings well in advance to save you from the trouble of lining up for tickets. The park houses a butterfly conservatory, an aquarium, a children’s park, a zoo, a crocodile farm, a snake park and a museum dedicated to prehistoric animals within the park are a hit with children and adults alike.

Ramanagara
Ramanagara is a town about 50 km from Bangalore. It served as a setting for the Sholay movie. Ramanagara is well known for Mysore park, silk farming, a huge Hanuman statue, and Ramadevara Betta Vulture sanctuary. The iconic Gabbar scene in the movie Sholay was shot at a rocky outcrop that you can reach via a staircase of about 400 steps. The hill offers you a 360-degree view of the village and the forest surrounding it.

Skandagiri Hills
You need to add a sunrise at Skandagiri hills to your bucket list. The sun rising amidst the clouds is a scene to behold. There are night treks arranged to reach the top in time for sunrise. The trek takes you through paths meandering through the wilderness. It is a thrilling experience in itself. Tour guides arrange for transportation to the hills at night when getting a cab might be difficult. You can also ask your hotel in Bangalore to arrange for transport.

Savandurga Hill
Savanadurga is the largest monolith in Asia just about a 2 hours’ drive from the city. There are two main points, the Billigudda (White hill) and Karigudda (Black hill). The trek to the top is for the adventurous. The rock is slippery at places and hence is not recommended for children and the elderly. The intermediate level trek rewards you with majestic views of the Manchinbele dam and the valley from the top. You can also see the Akravati River and the perennial Lotus ponds from the top.
