Ceremonial Rituals - The Leela Goa

Ceremonial Rituals

The lighting of the Diya in Indian culture is synonymous with purity, good luck and power. The presence of light is meant to annihilate darkness and other evil forces.

This is depicted through a symbolic ceremonial evening ritual that marks the beginning of the Sundowner at Susegado, our breezy beach-side lounge where guests can enjoy their pre-dinner drinks.

Come witness the ethereal sunset at the celebrated Leela Beach and join in this auspicious lighting ritual. Afterward, treat yourself to our array of mouthwatering appetizers while you mingle around with other residents and our management as you take in the stunning sunset by the beach

Come nightfall at Susegado, ladies carry diyas and light up the brass ‘Urlis’ which lead to the lounge. Soon after that, our Indian classical musician duo, Ustad Shahrukh Kawa and Ustad Ahmed Khan commence their soothing Tabla and Santoor performance.

During the monsoon, you can experience this ritual at the lobby where a small custom will be carried out at the Nataraj statue in the central lobby complex wherein the ladies place the diyas and adorn the deity with flowers. The pre-dinner drinks and complimentary starters are served at Yali Lounge during this time.
