The Leela Kempinski Mumbai is greeting the new year with completely refurbished, elegantly appointed 395 rooms and a brand new Royal Club lounge, having invested $25 million over 3 years to infuse a fresh contemporary look. The Mumbai property is the first five star deluxe hotel from the Leela Group, and its success allowed the company to expand its presence into other key markets.

In fact, Leela Kempinski Mumbai has created an island of peace and greenery amidst the hustle and bustle of North Mumbai’s business district and left the city mesmerised with ‘a never seen before scale of opulence and grandeur’. The renovation program, spread over three phases, also saw it launch a new fine dining Italian restaurant Stella.

The new rooms, focused on the aesthetic and functional needs of the guest, are expected to significantly enhance the stay experience. The Leela hotels are known for its lush garden landscapes and sprawling marble lobbies decorated with stunning original Indian artwork. Designers are integrating these classic Leela hallmarks with elegant contemporary designs and steering the new look towards understated contemporary elegance.

The rooms exude modern luxury rather than hard-edged minimalism and have been embellished with contemporary furnishings made from warm-hued woods. Platform beds have been introduced to rooms, along with custom-designed Leela mattresses and new bedding. Duvets, curtains and throw pillows are made from luxurious fabrics and done in soothing colours of taupe, cream, golden brown and beige.

The rooms are outfitted with the latest technology. A specially designed “office area" includes an ergonomic desk with international plugs, data port and other executive amenities. All renovated rooms feature Plasma TVs.

New Leela bathrooms feature white marble, gleaming chrome fixtures and glass-enclosed twin massage showers with spa-style showerheads. Some bathrooms even have striking sink basins and countertops.

According to the company’s President, Peter Leitgeb, “The continuing renovation plan reinforces Leela’s commitment to constant upgradation in style, amenities and facilities. Our rooms, public spaces and restaurants will now be the buzzword for luxury, comfort and style and regain for us the number one market position in North Mumbai.”
