If I am not for myself, who will be for me? If I am not for others, what am I? And if not now, when?” - Rabbi Hillel
On March 3, 2007 the Green Team comprising of executives and senior management spear headed by the General Manager, Mr. Jeffrey Sussman of the Leela Kempinski Mumbai took the first step towards paying it’s respects in their own humble way to the community in Andheri [East]. Having successfully launched the ‘Green Team’ within the hotel which undertakes various eco-friendly projects thrice a month within the hotel, this week was different.
A 35 member team from the hotel left for Snehasadan, a neighbourhood orphanage in Andheri [E] housing 60 orphan children. The objective was clearly to clean the surroundings and over look the hygiene levels at the orphanage. On reaching, the hotel staff enjoyed a rendezvous with the orphanage inmates and shared some laughter over sumptuous eatables and soft beverages organised by the F&B department of the hotel. The next couple of hours passed with the team deep cleaning the cafeteria of Snehasadan. Hard work sometimes pays off and this time it left the team content seeing the intrigued expressions and shy smiles of the little children who also lent a helping hand. The children enjoyed themselves in the company of new friends who also had the perfect start to a well-deserved week-end. A modest contribution of gifts and goodies were distributed among the children who looked excited.
The Green team looks forward to contributing to the community through it’s focussed social outreach program and like ‘Snehasadan’ reach out to many more areas, old age homes, rehabilitation centres, public interest areas, orphanages and more amidst it’s consistent efforts within the hotel to keep the surroundings green and clean.
Like Confucius says, “He, who wished to secure the good of others, has already secured his own.”
